The book ‘The Tradition of Saints Making Sarifices for the Ganga’ by Dr Sandeep Pandey was launched on 15th August 2020. The purpose of this book is to make people aware of the tremendous sacrifices being made by saints associated with Matri Sadan, Haridwar for the sake of the Ganga and to acknowledge their contributions. So far four saints have died for the cause of the Ganga, three after fasting for more than a hundred days each and one murdered by the mining mafia. Among the dead was Guru Das Agrawal, former Professor of Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur who had become a saint in 2011 and has been known as Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand since. Tied to the story of Professor Agrawal is the story of Matri Sadan, which he chose as the site of his three fasts including the last one. A nondescript ashram in Haridwar, marginalised by society and religious community alike, it has never had any attraction for the ascendant politics of Hindutva. But it has demonstrated amazing grit to take on the sand mining mafia which is in collusion with politicians, bureaucrats and even the courts. The story of Matri Sadan is an amazing story of commitment and sacrifices.
डॉ संदीप पाण्डेय द्वारा लिखी किताब ‘गंगा हेतु संतों की बलिदानी परम्परा’ का विमोचन 15 अगस्त 2020 को किया गया। इस पुस्तक का उद्देश्य लोगों को मातृ सदन के साधुओं के बलिदानों से अवगत कराना और गंगा के लिए उनके त्याग को उचित सम्मान देना है। अभी तक चार संतों की गंगा के लिए जान गई है जिसमें से तीन ने अनशन कर अपने प्राण त्यागे और चैथे की खनन माफिया ने हत्या करवा दी। यदि सरकार ने गंगा को अविरल और निर्मल बहने देने की उनकी मांग नहीं मानी तो अनशन करके अपना बलिदान देने के लिए और साधु तैयार हैं। मरने वालों में भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आई.आई.टी.), कानपुर के भूतपूर्व प्रोफेसर गुरू दास अग्रवाल भी शामिल हैं जो 2011 में साधु बन गए थे और उसके बाद से स्वामी ज्ञान स्वरूप सानंद के नाम से जाने जाते थे। अभी और कितने साधुओं को अपनी जान देनी पड़ेगी इससे पहले कि हम जागें? यह सिर्फ गंगा की बात नहीं थी। यह बड़ी बात थी कि हम एक दूसरे की परवाह करते हुए, जिसमें पर्यावरण की चिंता भी शामिल हो, कैसे सुखपूर्वक जी सकें। हम एक विनाश की तरफ बढ़ रहे हैं – मानवीय और पर्यावरणीय। एक समझदार वृद्ध हमें यह बताने की कोशिश कर रहा था। किंतु हमने उसे अनसुना कर दिया।
