Anil  Nauriya studied economics and  is Counsel at the Supreme Court of India. He was Senior Fellow (2013-2015) at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi. He has  had an intellectual association with and has taken a critical interest in the Socialist movement in India since  the early 1970s. Since then he has also been writing widely on contemporary  affairs and has focused frequently  on Constitutional matters,  Secularism and the State. He studies freedom movements in the twentieth century. Some of his writings can be found at academia.edu

He has contributed to various books and journals, the latter including the Economic and Political Weekly (Mumbai), Mainstream (New Delhi), Monthly Review (New York), Identite, Culture et Politique (Dakar) and Natalia (Pietermaritzburg). His writings in the last two decades include The African Element in Gandhi, (2006); Freedom, Race and Francophonie : Gandhi and  the  Construction of Peoplehood,  (2009); Soundings in Kindred Struggles : The Egyptian Voice in Gandhi,  (2011);  Gandhi and some Contemporary African leaders from KwaZulu-Natal, (2012);  English Anti-Imperialism and the Varied Lights of Willie Pearson,  (2014); Non-violent Action and Socialist Radicalism: Narendra Deva in India’s freedom movement, (2015);  Representing Indian Toilers in Natal: Some Explorations with Gandhi, (2016);  Sectarian Politics and the Partition of India: The Targeting of Nehru and the Congress, (2016); Hermann Kallenbach and Sonja Schlesin : Glimpses of Some Lithuanian and East European Links in Gandhi’s South African Struggles and After, (2017); Gandhi and West Africa : Exploring the Affinities (2017); and On Gandhi’s Reflections During His Last Days: Some Socio-Economic and Political Aspects, (2019).
