Implications of US Election Results for the US, India and the Rest of the World

The United States of America has played an integral role in shaping the world as we see it today. It was one of the foremost nations to adopt large-scale industrialisation and embrace and promulgate the use of petroleum and natural gas (shale gas) in the process. Today, it could also be called a throw-away society, with its unfettered consumerism and disproportionate use of the earth’s resources, contributing to climate change and environmental destruction worldwide especially in African and South Asian nations. The USA is also one of the most politically and economically powerful and influential countries on the planet and has a key role to play in shaping the future of humanity. Any shuffle in USA politics sends ripples across the entire world. It affects the social, economic and political order of almost every country. In this session we will try to understand the source of these ripples and the potential they hold in shaping India and other nations.
