Telangana Human Rights Commission Summons Superintending Engineer, GHMC Lakes to Attend Next Hearing on Nacharam Pedda Cheruvu

TELANGANA HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION SUMMONS SUPERINTENDING ENGINEER GHMC LAKES TO ATTEND ON 12 FEBRUARY 2021 IN TODAY’S HEARING FOR RESTORATION OF NACHARAM PEDDA CHERUVU – HRC case no. 3167/2017

Further to last hearing of 22 December 2020, today 9th February 2021 Telangana State Human Rights Commission, Hyderabad heard the petitioner for restoration of Nacharam Pedda Cheruvu where public money is being squandered with lake encroachment being increased and pollution unabated and frothing.

Petitioner has filed a 28 page reply on 22 December 2020 with facts and maps, in response to the GHMC commissioner report, yet, GHMC, LPC , WALTA authorities did not respond thus far.

TSHRC then issued notice today to GHMC counsel and to Superintending Engineer, North Tanks Division,  incharge of 189 lakes of GHMC to be present and to give explanation to petitioner’s representations.

Next hearing on 12 February 2021.  We shall keep you updated. We urge every citizen to stand for the water body and any other natural resource in their vicinity.

We have multi governance on each water body yet it is not sufficient to protect our water bodies from encroachment and pollution.  We are only asking all those responsible to work by rules and application of mind. Is it so difficult to do what they are supposed to do and for what they take home money every month?

Below is latest Google Earth satellite imagery depicting the froth flowing from outflow channel of Nacharam Cheruvu that flows into Nalla Cheruvu Uppal and drains into Moosi Nadi.  Moosi Nadi is tributary of Krishna Nadi and Krishna Nadi waters are given back to the city for drinking. Please ponder on this.

Best,

Petitioner Dr Lubna Sarwath

State General Secretary, Socialist Party (India) Hyderabad
