The proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions above ₹2,000 could place an additional financial burden on small traders, merchants and ordinary consumers. At a time when digital payments need to remain accessible and affordable, additional transaction charges should not become a burden on the public.
Our key demands:
- Withdraw the proposed MDR charges on UPI merchant transactions.
- Do not impose additional financial burdens on small traders and merchants.
- Keep UPI affordable and easily accessible to the public.
- Hold consultations with traders, consumers and public representatives before introducing any new charges.
Digital payments should serve the people — not create additional financial burdens!
