Socialist Party (India) Condemns UP Government’s Attempt to get Bail of Advocate Mohammad Shoaib Cancelled

The Uttar Pradesh Government has moved the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Lucknow seeking cancellation of bail to Socialist Party (India) state President Advocate Mohammad Shoaib, Congress activist Sadaf Jafar and cultural activist Deepak Kabir who are accused of vandalism during the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens in December 2019.

Advocate Shoaib’s bail has been sought to be revoked on the charge that he violated the condition of bail by leading a candle light march at Hussainabad clocktower, one of the anti-CAA-NRC protest sites on the occasion of death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January, 2020. The police has accused him of inspiring and instigating people to participate in illegal protest.

Socialist Party (India) condemns this action of UP Government and would like to advise the government to concentrate on reining in the murders, rapists, kidnappers and extortionists who have made a mockery of law and order in the state, rather than going after social-political activists.
