Complaint to Telangana State Human Rights Commission, Hyderabad against Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, for referring to Domestic Workers at para 2 as “domestic help including maids and house help”, at para 4 as “household help including maids, domestic help”, and at para 5 as “domestic help services including maids” in Memo 3654/General/2020 dated 6 May 2020 and repeating the same in 3654/General/2020 dated 18 May 2020.(attached), in spite of our notice urging him to refrain from such undignified and unprofessional references.
Reference: HRC Case no. 1417/2020 – Today 10 February 2021 hearing before Telangana State Human Rights Commission, Hyderabad. Commission rejects the ‘unsigned’ and ‘unstamped’ report submitted by MAUD dept, government of Telangana, Hyderabad as it was signed by Section Officer and not stamped.
On the above representation, case came up for hearing before State Human Rights Commission today 10 February 2021 after last hearing of 24 December 2020 wherein notice was issued to MAUD Principal Secretary, Government of Telangana, Hyderabad as follows:
“Call for a report from Principal Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (General) Department, Government of Telangana, by 10.02.2021“
Commission rejected the report submitted by MAUD department, government of Telangana, as it was not signed by MAUD Principal secretary and signed by section officer. Secondly, commission pointed out that it was not even stamped by the authority from whom report is sought.
Commission issued orders called for report to be presented on 12 February 2021 and called it as unfortunate that report was submitted in such a manner. (We shall post the order soon as we receive it.)
We still hope dutiful sense and application of mind prevails over the Principal Secretary, MAUD, and that he would heed to our earlier representations and issue a new memo stating that the words ‘domestic help, house help, maids’ used in Memo No. 3654/General/2020 Dated: 06-05-2020 and 3654/General/2020 dated 18 may 2020 are deeply regretted and that they are replaced and to be read as ‘domestic workers’.
This would save the Commission’s valuable time and lacs of domestic workers across Telangana would welcome his gesture.
We shall keep you updated on the matter.
Best,
Dr Lubna Sarwath
