Socialist Party (India) Convenes National Committee Meeting in Amritsar; Announces “Green Alliance”, Nationwide Grassroots Expansion, and Upcoming Ladakh Padyatra
AMRITSAR | 16 August 2026 — The National Committee of the Socialist Party (India) convened its meeting on Independence Day, 15 August 2026, at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Niwas, Lawrence Road, Amritsar. Chaired by Working President Ningappa Devaravar and attended by senior leadership and state delegates from across the country, the convention outlined a comprehensive roadmap focused on ideological renewal, internal organizational discipline, environmental justice, grassroots democratization, and upcoming public campaigns.
The meeting commenced with tributes to late comrades Shyam Gambhir and Faisal Khan’s father, observing a two-minute silence. The party felicitated veteran leaders, notably 83-year-old Om Singh Satyana and 76-year-old Jagdish Sharma for their participation in the recently concluded Jalandhar-to-Amritsar India-Pakistan Peace and Friendship March, as well as former Member of Parliament V. Venkatesh upon assuming charge as the Karnataka State President.
Commitment to Ideology, Peace, and Green Socialism
Harinder Singh Manshahia delivered the welcome remarks. Delivering the presidential address, Working President Ningappa Devaravar reiterated that socialism was forged during India’s anti-colonial freedom struggle to achieve both political democracy and substantive economic equality.
“A party without ideology is like a body without a soul. Nature is not a mere resource to be exploited—we have not inherited this earth from our ancestors, but borrowed it from our children. We must build a peaceful, green socialist alternative that stands firmly with the working masses and resists the dominance of money in politics.”
— Ningappa Devaravar, Working President, SP(I)
Reaffirming its anti-war and pro-justice stance, the leadership expressed deep concern over global conflicts, reiterating that working-class populations bear the brunt of violence while corporate and imperialist interests profit.
