Socialist Party (India) welcomes the announcement by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, whose leader Akhil Gogoi is in jail since December 2019 on charges of sedition and under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for playing a crucial role in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in Assam, to launch a political party and declare Akhil Gogoi as its Chief Ministerial candidate and commits its support to this proposed party. Totally committed to struggles for the rights of common masses in Assam we believe Akhil Gogoi is the most deserving person to lead Assam. He has been to jail both in the regimes led by Congress and Bhartiya Janata Party.
We also appeal to all the secular forces in Assam including the All Assam Students’ Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad to come together to defeat the alliance led by the BJP.
