We commend the judges of the High Court of Allahabad for setting aside the charges against Dr. Kafeel Khan and in doing so, exposing the UP Government for its total failure in maintaining law and order – consistent with the Indian Constitution- in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The UP police have shown to be fully and totally incompetent in maintain law and order but still found motivation to arrest Dr. Khan from Mumbai after he made a speech at Aligarh Muslim University.
Khan has been jailed for more than 8 months. Though he is a dedicated pediatrician whose services could have been used in pandemic times, he was cynically singled out by the UP Police and charged under the National Security Act. This is travesty and a miscarriage of justice. We hope now that Dr Khan will be honourably and immediately reinstated in his position at Baba Raghav Das Medical College and that his case will prove to be an example for other innocent citizens who are languishing in jail.
