The statement made by Ajit Doval, who occupies a constitutional position of responsibility as the National Security Advisor of the country, that “temples were looted and we were helpless,” is a grave insult to India’s history, its people, and their long struggles. Through this remark, the people of the nation are portrayed as helpless and passive in India’s glorious history, which is not only factually incorrect but also politically dangerous.
India’s history has been one of resistance, struggle, socio-cultural reconstruction, and the defense of self-respect. Popular resistance, uprisings, cultural renaissance against foreign invasions and plunder, and ultimately the defeat of colonial rule to achieve independence—all these are proof that India was never helpless. Such statements mock the sacrifices and struggles of countless people.
Presenting history in this manner and calling upon the youth to prepare for revenge is an attempt to create a war-like mindset within the country itself. This will promote lasting tension, fear, and division in society, and divert young people from their future, education, employment, and the real progress of the nation. We must understand that the language of revenge and retaliation distances the youth from core Indian values such as peace, non-violence, coexistence, and democratic wisdom. In the name of national security, such rhetoric will neither make the country safer nor strengthen society. On the contrary, it poses a serious threat to the Constitution, the rule of law, and social harmony.
We demand that people holding constitutional positions use responsible and balanced language with respect to history and society. Instead of pushing the youth into politics of hatred and revenge, they should be encouraged toward development, employment, and social harmony. India’s strength does not lie in revenge, but in justice, struggle, peace, and democratic consciousness. Distorting history and dividing society from within is against the national interest.
