Democracy Under Attack: Socialist Party (India) Condemns the Forceful Eviction and Detention of Mr. Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar

We Demand His Immediate Release and Removal of Union Education Minister.

The Socialist Party (India) expresses its strongest condemnation over the forceful eviction and detention of Mr. Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar by the Delhi Police. If a peaceful democratic protest can be met with police force instead of dialogue, it raises serious concerns about the state of democratic freedoms in the country.

Mr. Sonam Wangchuk has emerged as a voice raising concerns over the future of students and the integrity of the education system. Responding to such concerns with police action rather than meaningful engagement sends a disturbing message to every cltizen who believes in peaceful democratic protest.

The Socialist Party (India) considers this action deeply regrettable and urges the Government of India to respect the constitutional rights of every citizen, including the right to peacefully assemble and express dissent. Democracy cannot be strengthened by suppressing peaceful voices; it is strengthened by listening to them.

The continuing controversy surrounding the NEET examination has shaken the confidence of students and parents across India. Instead of ensuring accountability and restoring trust in the education system, the Union Government has, in our view, failed to address the concerns that continue to be raised by students, parents, and civil society.

The Socialist Party (India) therefore demands:

1. The immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Sonam Wangchuk and all others detained in connection with the peaceful protest.

2. A fair, transparent, and independent inquiry into the police action at Jantar Mantar.

3. The immediate removal of Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, from the Council of Ministers, accepting practical responsibility.

4. The immediate removal of Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, from the Council of Ministers, accepting ministerial responsibility for the continuing crisis surrounding the NEET issue and the loss of public confidence in the education system.

We appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, to rise above political considerations, uphold constitutional values, and act decisively to restore public faith in democratic institutions and the country’s education system.

The Socialist Party (India) stands shoulder to shoulder with students, youth, parents, teachers, and every citizen committed to democracy, justice, accountability, and the rule of law. The voice of the people cannot and should not be silenced through force. Peaceful dissent is not a crime–it is the lifeblood of a vibrant democracy.
