Socialist Party will hold ‘Anti-Constitution Quit India’ Rally in Delhi on Quit India Day
The National Executive Committee Meeting of the Socialist Party held in Delhi on 9 April. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Prem Singh, president of the party. Delegates from 15 states – Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra and Kerala participated in the meeting. State presidents of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan units of the party sent their reports.
It was decided in the meeting that a rally will be held in Delhi on coming 9 August to mark the 75th Quit India Day. Thousands of Socialist Party workers will gather in Delhi from all over India for the event. The party will appeal to all like-minded parties/organisations and individuals to take part in the rally. In the next four months, the party plans to launch a campaign in the country to expose the anti-Constitution character of the present government.
Important political-economic-social issues were discussed in the meeting and a political resolution was adopted. The delegates expressed deep concern, particularly about the deteriorating situation in Kashmir valley. Violence in the Sri Nagar by election, where 8 people were killed by the bullets of armed forces and very thin polling – 7.14% – shows that the situation in the valley has become alarming. The BJP government in the center and its ally PDP government in J & K are responsible for this. The RSS/BJP, indulged in spreading communal frenzy in the society, view the Kashmir problem only from communal angle. The Socialist Party believes that the situation should not deteriorate further and gradually normal life should be restored, a new national initiative should be started. Representatives of social, cultural and religious bodies should also be involved along with political parties in new initiative. In the meeting, an appeal was made to the youth of Kashmir to stop throwing stones on armed forces and to join new initiative so that the Kashmir problem can be resolved democratically and peacefully in the framework of Indian Constitution. Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits should be determined in any of future accords.
