Jammu, 18-01-2025, In a significant meeting aimed at addressing the concerns of the Sikh and Tribal communities, prominent social youth activists Sardar Harasis Singh and Dr. Sameer Choudhary State President National Student and Youth Front (NSYF) met with Rouble Nagi, famously known as the “Slum Queen.” The occasion was to congratulate her on her recent nomination to the prestigious panel of community leaders at the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), where she will play an instrumental role in advising the commission on matters related to various minority communities.
During the interaction, both Singh and Choudhary praised Nagi’s nomination, recognizing her tireless efforts toward uplifting marginalized communities and her commitment to social change. They expressed optimism that her position on the NCM panel would amplify the voice of the underprivileged, especially those belonging to the Sikh and Tribal communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The discussion also focused on the pressing issues faced by the Sikh and Tribal communities in the region. Key topics raised included the need for enhanced educational opportunities, better healthcare facilities, and job creation, alongside the promotion of cultural preservation and recognition. Both Singh and Choudhary emphasized the importance of creating sustainable development programs that could address the unique challenges faced by these communities, with a particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir, a region where socio-economic development remains a key concern.
“We are hopeful that Rouble Nagi’s role in the NCM will bring forth a strong platform for advocating the concerns of the Sikh and Tribal communities at the national level. The challenges faced by these communities must not only be acknowledged but also acted upon,” said Dr. Sameer Choudhary, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Sardar Harasis Singh echoed similar sentiments, stressing the need for inclusive growth. “The Sikh and Tribal communities in Jammu and Kashmir have faced systemic challenges for years. However, with strategic interventions and the collective efforts of activists, we can begin to see real change,” he added.
Rouble Nagi, who has long been an advocate for slum dwellers and marginalized groups, expressed her appreciation for the work being done by the NSYF and the activists from the Sikh community. She praised Singh and Choudhary for their dedication and contributions to the cause, particularly their consistent advocacy for the welfare of their respective communities. To express her gratitude, Nagi presented her book, The Slum Queen, to both activists as a token of appreciation.
“This book reflects the struggles and resilience of those living in slums, and I hope it inspires others to contribute to creating a more just society,” Nagi said as she handed over the copies.
The book The Slum Queen, which tells the story of Rouble Nagi’s own journey from poverty to prominence, has been widely appreciated for its raw depiction of the challenges faced by the impoverished sections of society. Through this literary work, Nagi has sought to bring attention to the plight of slum dwellers and has championed their cause on national and international platforms.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continue their advocacy for marginalized communities and to work together in pushing for better policies and solutions at the national level. As they parted ways, the activists and Nagi reaffirmed their shared goal of empowering the disadvantaged communities of India, with a particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that their voices are heard at every level of governance.
This collaboration marks a significant step in the collective effort to ensure justice and equality for all communities in the country, especially those who have been historically underserved.
