The petition dated 4 June 2020 submitted for restoration and eviction of road laying inside Khajaguda Talab Pedda Cheruvu with HMDA Lake ID 3730 to High Court is in three parts: petition 1, petition 2 and petition 3. Three petitions along with attachments are available here for public information and understanding.
Our prayer at the threshold of the halls of justice, High Court at Hyderabad:
1. Evict the road laid inside the 3730 Pedda Cheruvu Khajaguda, (on western boundary connecting to construction projects that have devoured yet another lake that is in the south of Pedda Cheruvu Khajaguda,) under the aegis of MAUD Minister, the government of Telangana;
Proceed against MAUD minister and all officials in charge of this lake from Lake Protection Committee and the WALTA Authority, as irreversible damage is done by the blasting of all those precious rocks, that enabled the inflow of rainwater in its purest form to the lake.
2. Evict the State election office and other constructions on the northern part of the lake and restore the inflow channels of the lake; Restore the lake in terms of its area, volume and quality of water; Restore hydrology of the lake;
3. Investigate the authenticity of HRDCL as its presence is nowhere in the public domain except by a private listing site; HRDCL is working against the public interest by laying road inside the waterbody using public money;
4. Investigate genuineness of Lea Consultants, who is supposedly giving projects to destroy our water bodies and has nothing on its website; Leaving all Telangana expertise why Lea has become the go-to consultants for all ‘projects’ ‘DPRs’?
The legacy of this honourable court at Hyderabad is such that it did not allow a tank to be deviated even if it was the sake of another canal under a public project.
But, in case of Khajaguda Pedda Cheruvu and many other lakes of Hyderabad, the ministry of MAUD with utter disregard to any law, the constitution of India, science or sense, is devouring and desecrating lakes making two claims: one, lakefront beautification and development, at the cost of size, volume and survival of lake; second, that we do not need these lakes for drinking or cleaning purpose as citizens are assured of water from 300 km away from Godavari.
We urge the court to save elixirs of life, lifelines of Hyderabad for now and for future. Hyderabad was self-sufficient in water. Even now, for the copious rains that we are always blessed with, if we enable all lakes to capture the rainwater we need not depend on any water from Godavari. We urge you not to be part of this decadence of Hyderabad but to usher in life into the lifelines of Hyderabad.
We coordinate with you in public interest.
