Dr Sandeep Pandey, Magsaysay Awardee, is fasting for implementation of RTE (Right to education) Act in U.P. His health condition is deteriorating as he enters 7th day of his fast tonight.
There was a huge crowd in support of Dr Pandey’s demand for implementation of RTE in totality since many prestigious schools in Lucknow have denied admission despite government orders.
The Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Lucknow passed an order on 6 April, 2015, directing the prestigious City Montessori School to admit 31 children under the 25% reservation provision for underprivileged children under the (Free and Compulsory) Right to Education Act, 2009. CMS decided to move the court instead of admitting the children.
Allahabad High court has ordered the Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA), Lucknow to visit the City Montessori School, Indira Nagar branch, to inspect whether ample space available to accommodate the 31 students who filled up for this school under RTE Act (Right to Education).
BSA has been ordered to submit his report to High Court by next hearing which is on 17th July’15.
To arrive at a solution, a closed door meeting was conducted by DM Lucknow. It was attended by social activits – Dr Sandeep Pandey, Arundhati Dhuru, Alok Kumar – representing the 31 families and by Dr Jagdish Gandhi founder CMS -representing CMS. However the talks failed since CMS refused to admit the students.
Meanwhile a Medical team visited Dr Sandeep Pandey today and found his health condition declining. Protest will continue from GPO, Lucknow as more people are joining the fast to support the cause.
