Socialist Party’s ‘Provide Education and Employment Or Quit Power’ campaign will continue throughout the country
On the occasion of 76th anniversary of the Quit India Movement on August 9, the Socialist Party took out ‘Provide Education and Employment Or Quit Power’ (shikhsa aur rojgar do varna gaddi chhod do) rally in Delhi from Mandi House to Parliament Street. Leaders and activists of Socialist Party from different states took part in large numbers in the rally. Youth of Socialist Yuvjan Sabha (SYS) put their best efforts to make the rally a big successful. They did hard work for more than a month distributing pamphlets of the rally in all parts of Delhi and NCR. Leaders of like-minded organizations, social activists, writers, artists and intellectuals participated in the rally. Particularly the students of Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia University and youth of the city took part in the rally enthusiastically.
The rally was led by Dr. Prem Singh, National President, Socialist Party (India). Senior socialist and party leader Pannalal Surana flagged off the rally at Mandi House. Addressing the gathering on this occasion, he said that the existing Narendra Modi government has converted the education into a profit-making business in the hands of capitalists and, thus, has abandoned the constitutional directions and obligations on this subject. The Prime Minister has failed to fulfill his election promise about employment. As long as the neo-liberal policies remain, all children and youth of the country cannot get proper education and jobs. He called upon the youth to overthrow the government which has failed to provide them education and employment.
Dr. Prem Singh explained the motive of the rally at Mandi House. He said that providing common, quality and free education to all is a constitutional obligation of the governments. Due to government’s pro-capitalist education policy, only a handful of wealthy children and young men/women can get good education of their choice. It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister has reduced the serious problem of employment into a farce. He has spent billions of rupees out of public’s hard earned money on his election. Billions of rupees are spent on image-building advertisements and foreign travels. He wears suit of millions gifted to him by ultra-rich business people. He is allowing his favorite industrialists to make huge loot of the country’s wealth. But he advises the educated unemployed youth to sell pakoras and to work on the construction sites under his Smart City schemes. The Prime Minister has decided to place private corporate officers on the posts of Indian Civil Services. He can do so even in state services. It is up to the youth to think and decide whether they will let function this government or overthrow? The youth present at the rally responded in a firm resolve that they will overthrow the government, which has been totally failed to provide education employment.
People marched from the Mandi House to the Parliament Street raising the theme slogan ‘Provide Education and Employment Or Quit Power’. Slogans in memory of the martyrs of the August Revolution were also raised continuously during the march. Rally turned into a public meeting at Parliament Street.
